Parliament’s Environment, Climate and Wildlife Committee has opened an inquiry into potential ecocide legislation following a petition by human rights and environmental defender Emmanuel Nkosilathi Moyo. Referencing the IEP 2021 definition of ecocide, Moyo called for the criminalisation of the worst environmental harms in order to protect communities and ecosystems.
