WHY MUST I PAY TO BECOME AN EARTH PROTECTOR?
This campaign is based on the Earth Protectors Trust Fund document which has significantly more weight and credibility than a petition. This is because it’s been apostilled (rubber-stamped) by virtually every jurisdiction in the world as a valid document which can be presented in a court of law. By its nature it is a Fund, and so being an Earth Protector (or put another way, a Trustee of the Earth) is a status that comes with gifting to the Fund.
If you prefer, you can donate anonymously, sign up to our mailing list or add your voice by signing our active petitions.
WHERE DO MY SIGN-UP FUNDS GO?
Funds cover expert legal assistance and practical costs of small climate-vulnerable states progressing ecocide law at the International Criminal Court.
WHY MUST I SIGN UP USING EUROS?
This is because the main Trust Fund account is held in The Netherlands and has ANBI (charitable) status there which is a tax advantage to NL donors and those from tax juridictions which operate similarly. Much of the activity it funds is also based there. If you would like to be an Earth Protector but prefer to donate in another currency you can sign up for the minimum amount here and then set up a separate donation from here (recurring or one-off).
MY COMMUNITY IS FACING A TERRIBLE ECOCIDE. CAN YOU HELP ME?
Our key focus is not on fighting any one specific ecocidal context or case, but in putting in place an international law - ecocide crime - that is actually capable of addressing cases like yours across the world. Because right now, corporations can do what they are doing because there is no law in place to prevent or prohibit it. Meantime, please see our page Your Frontline for more detail and advice.
I AM SUING/WISH TO SUE AN ECOCIDAL CORPORATION. CAN YOU HELP ME?
The focus of our campaign is not on existing regulation, and it is not on civil law (litigation/suing), so we are not best placed to help you here. Our focus is on the creation of new criminal law (prosecuting). Where we can help is if you are facing legal action in a criminal court for standing up to protect your community or the Earth from ecocide. (See Conscientious Protectors page).
WHO WILL BE PROSECUTABLE UNDER ECOCIDE LAW?
Ecocide law is intended for the prosecution of persons of superior responsibility - the directing minds in a given situation where the crime of ecocide has been committed or has failed to be prevented. These persons may be ministers of state or CEOs/senior officers of corporations or other bodies responsible for ecocide.
WHERE CAN I FIND OUT MORE ABOUT ECOCIDE LAW?
The official portal for all information about ecocide law can be found at our sister site HERE. It has a comprehensive FAQ section. Please browse it first before sending us lots of questions!
I’M AN ACTIVIST STANDING UP AGAINST ECOCIDE - DOES BECOMING AN EARTH PROTECTOR HELP ME?
Yes, it provides you with primary evidence that you are a Conscientious Protector and not a criminal, and your signed Trust Fund document can be presented in court with a legal argument relying on Freedom of Conscience (ECHR art 9, UDHR art 18). While it cannot guarantee you a particular outcome in terms of acquittal or sentencing, it will help give you the opportunity to explain WHY you took non-violent direct action (to protect the Earth/your community/future generations) and allow you to present evidence supporting your action. See Conscientious Protectors page.
WHEN I SIGNED UP I GOT A BLOCKCHAIN CERTIFICATE - WHAT’S IT FOR?
We no longer generate these as our most recent legal advice is that they are not required and we have no wish to employ crypto-server energy unnecessarily. Your key document as an Earth Protector is your Earth Protectors Trust Fund document - this shows the date and time at which you signed up and if required we can verify this.
