To become an Earth Protector, first sign our international petition and then continue to join as an Earth Protector immediately afterwards.
This campaign is based on the Earth Protectors Trust Fund document. When you join as an Earth Protector, this is the fund you contribute to. The document has weight because it’s been apostilled (rubber-stamped) as a valid legal document by virtually every country in the world.
What is achieved by becoming an Earth Protector?
1) Visibility: More signed up Earth Protectors demonstrates to governments and industry that there is public commitment behind this demand. It creates grassroots back-up for states willing to take forward the recognition of ecocide as a crime.
2) Funding: You help to crowdfund expert legal and practical assistance for states progressing ecocide law at the International Criminal Court. This helps the rest of the world benefit from a law of ecocide.
3) For Activists: You will receive a unique Trust Fund document in your name which shows that you believe that damage and destruction to the Earth and its inhabitants is a crime. If you are, or decide to become, a Conscientious Protector taking peaceful direct action to protect the Earth, this document carries legal weight and can be used in court as primary evidence that you are not acting to cause harm, but to prevent it.

We’ve often been asked if people can sign up to the campaign without actually becoming paid-up Earth Protectors - in particular young people and those on low incomes or without online payment means. Well you can! All you need is an email address.
The signup page is an international petition, which has significant benefits for the campaign:
Gathering signatures ourselves - we can visibly grow our support base, and we can contact signatories in a particular country if a government petition or new branch of the campaign is started there;
Keeping the petition open - this way we can periodically use the figures, both total and state by state, to demonstrate to governments the level of civil support that is building up over time. The more signatures we have, the more pressure we create.
Once you’ve signed the petition, you can go on to join as an Earth Protector if you wish.
Already existing Earth Protectors will be automatically included in the petition - after all, you’ve already said you want ecocide to become an international crime!
